This year, we’re expanding our Unreal Day event even further, and giving you a chance to showcase your creativity, your mastery of Epic’s tools and an opportunity to compete in the second regional Unreal Jam! And this goes out to all of you in 9 countries of CEE, Adriatic and the Balkans. 

Best project will prizes from our partners at PackDev (and more coming soon!), but also a chance to travel to Belgrade and pitch your game live at the main evening program of Unreal Day.

Participation is free and all expenses will be covered.  You just need to focus on creating unforgettable and unique gaming experiences and environments.

As if that was not enough, we are teaming up with friends from 3Lateral and Materryia to offer local talent an additional two-day physical UEFN game jam!

IT'S NOT JUST ONE - BUT TWO GAME JAMS!

UNREAL JAM

Two-week online journey for  teams from across the region working in UE or UEFN.

The two-week regional online JAM welcomes any teams working in UE or UEFN from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria & Albania.

Three best shortlisted teams will join us for UNREAL DAY, attend a pitching workshop, pitch in front of a full room of UE enthusiasts & claim their prizes.

UEFN Game Jam

Two-day physical game jam in Novi Sad for local teams working in UEFN.

Local young creators will have a chance to attend a two-day game jam at the Science-Technology Park in Novi Sad, courtesy of 3Lateral. 

They will work with the same theme as their colleagues signed up for Unreal Jam. 

One selected team will join us for UNREAL DAY and present their project. Glory is guaranteed, as well special (sur)prizes!

UNREAL JAM

TWO-WEEK ONLINE JOURNEY FOR TEAMS FROM ACROSS THE REGION WORKING IN UE OR UEFN.

UNREAL JAM GUIDELINES

We encourage developers and creatives of all experiences to participate, but some prior knowledge of game dev is expected. 

  • TEAM: Apply a team of 1-5 team members (only fully formed teams and solo devs will be accepted – we will not compose new teams if you are an individual looking to participate)
  • COUNTRY: You can apply from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, Romania, Albania, Slovenia and Bulgaria
  • AGE: All ages are welcome, but please note that you might need special permissions (depending on the country of origin) to travel to Serbia, in case your team is chosen for the live pitch in Belgrade
  • THEME: The theme of the GameJam will be revealed to all accepted teams on the starting day. 
  • TIME: You will have no more than two weeks do develop your game.
  • MENTORS: Expert mentor support will be available for the duration of the Jamming period via the Unreal GameJam Discord server. Top 3 teams will have expert support to finalise their pitch, in person in Belgrade.
  • DOCUMENTATION: Eligible teams will receive a Game Application Guidelines document, and Top 3 teams will receive a Pitch Presentation Template

            IP GUIDELINES

  • You are responsible for making sure you have the necessary rights, licenses, or permission for any game or its assets you submit as part of the Game Jam.
  • Teams retain all ownership rights to the games they submit

JAM TIMELINE

After checking the eligibility of teams, those accepted
into the competition will receive a Discord invite.

All communication during the Unreal Jam will be on Discord. 

This is where we will announce the theme, where you
can communicate with our team of expert mentors and
receive all needed support.

You will have 10 full days to develop your game.

JUDGING & SCORE

Qualified submissions will be reviewed and scored (1-5 point scale) by a panel of qualified judges, according to the following criteria:

  • Unique Use of Contest Theme
  • Fun Factor
  • Visuals
  • Audio
  • Gameplay

NOTE: Sourced (non-original) assets are allowed where you’ve received necessary permission to use them in your project. Sourced assets will not be reviewed and scored.

  • Example 1: A scene with environment art from FAB or an online marketplace could get points for lighting and composition, but the pre-made assets wouldn’t.
  • Example 2: A scene with sourced audio could get points for implementation (spatialisation, real-time modulation, etc), but the sourced audio wouldn’t.

Alex Coulombe

Alex Coulombe is an architect turned XR-chitect crafting virtual worlds and the spectacles within. As Co-Founder and CEO of the award-winning NYC XR studio Agile Lens, Alex has pioneered enterprise solutions and new forms of narrative through emerging technologies. Since 2016, Agile Lens has collaborated on such notable projects as an annual live VR adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” “The Orchard: Off Broadway” starring Mikhail Baryshnikov, and “Body of Mine,” the first LGBTQ+ app on the Meta Quest Store. Clients include NVIDIA, NASA, Intel, IBM, Samsung, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Four Seasons, Equinox, Lincoln Center, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In addition to creative endeavors, Alex is a dedicated educator and advocate for real-time technology. He works with Epic Games developing courses, teaches as an Unreal Engine Authorized Instructor, operates the only Unreal Engine Authorized Training Center in Manhattan, hosts The Unofficial Unreal Engine Podcast, and recently wrapped assisting the Unreal Games Fellowship. His dedication extends to lectures and workshops at NYU, Columbia, Princeton, Ringling, Syracuse, Cornell, and Pratt, demystifying XR technologies for a wide range of in-person audiences. His online talks and tutorials have garnered millions of views. His research and insights have been published with SIGGRAPH and IEEE GEM.

Joan da Silva

After his studies in Visual Arts, Joan Da Silva founded in 1997 the creative studio Artepict, a pioneer company in animation and online video games. He then worked for the major players in the gaming industry, notably as a Producer for Ubisoft and Creative Director at Rovio. He then focused on education, first as the director of two of the major Digital Arts Schools in France, LISAA in Paris and then ARTFX in Montpellier. He’s now the Education Advisor for Epic Games helping the creative industries in the adoption of Real Time Technologies

Attila Szigeti

Attila began his DIGIC career 12 years ago as a coordinator, then 4 years later became the Director of Character Division. 4 months ago, he was appointed as Head of DIGIC Studios to our expanding Studios branch, created to leverage the maturing engine-based technologies in high-quality animated content creation for the gaming and entertainment industry.

Aleksandar Danilovac

During his university studies in Serbia, he discovered his passion for video game creation through a Computer Graphics course, where he first explored 3D game development. This initial spark led him to continue his education by enrolling in an online 3D course at Gnomon in the U.S. He later joined Think Tank’s 3D program, which provided top students with the opportunity to complete their final semester in Canada. In 2021, he began his career at inXile as an environment artist. He later transitioned to Electronic Arts (EA), contributing to the FC (2024) project and working on the immensely popular virtual card system, which generates over a billion dollars annually. After some time, he chose to return to inXile, feeling that the large corporate environment was not aligned with his career aspirations. Alongside his professional work, he has been a mentor at Think Tank Training Centre, guiding over 60 students on their journey into the gaming industry. After three years, he was honored to take on a more significant teaching role, instructing an entire class during their third semester.

Marko Šovljanski

Studied Animation and Visual Effects at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. He was engaged in computer graphics in the fields of architecture and motion graphics before finally choosing to work on video games. Experience working on characters, environment art, and environment concept art on video games.

Milan Ličina

Crafting one of a kind narratives using state-of-the-art technology, with extensive experience in real-time graphics, gaming, new media, creative industries, event and exhibition design. New Media Designer and Creative Technologist from Belgrade, Serbia. Passionate about art, design and technology. More precisely, their intersection as platform for creating immersive narratives and experiences. Skilled in creative coding, rapid prototyping, AR/VR development, 3D modeling, motion graphics, rendering, UX/UI/FUI design, game engine utilization, video editing and sound design. Recently, he started experimenting with deep learning and AI in art. Works as a Creative Tech Specialist at Galerija12 in Belgrade, Associate Professor at Metropolitan University, as the Founder of Vidra creative studio and also as an independent digital artist. Milan is also Epic Authorized Instructor Partner for Unreal Engine.

Filip Karzić

Currently living in Serbia and working as a 3D artist – focus of his work is on 3D modeling and texturing assets while also creating levels later sold on the Unreal Engine online store. Also worked on a couple of games as a 3D artist. Previously worked as an architect in Kragujevac (Serbia) and participated in a wide range of projects ranging from concept and design stage to CGI realistic architectural visualizations. Found out his true call – designing places and ambiences, from macro to micro level thus enabling players to enjoy every scene in a game.

Larisa Ivetić

3D Generalist, Technical Artist and Level Artist in Game Development with 6 years of active experience in the industry. She started her career independently, out of her interest and passion for video games and the artwork of their production itself. As a self-taught 3D artist, she gained her development mainly from experience in the production of video games on various platforms for Android, iOS, and PC platforms with experience working in two game engines – Unreal Engine and Unity. Currently working as a Lead 3D Artist, Tech Artist and Level Artist at PackDev. She was a participant in various game jam programs (Unity, UEFN), as well as a participant in the Unreal Fellowship: Worldbuilding program organized by Epic Games, 3lateral, Materriya, in 2023, and from this year she is also an official Autodesk-certified 3D artist for 3ds Max software and Maya.

TOP 3 – Two representatives of top 3 teams chosen by the jury will receive a paid trip (travel + accommodation for 2 nights) to Belgrade.

You will attend our Unreal Day conference and pitch live in front of the jury. Teams will also attend an expert tailor-made pitching workshop the day before, to hone their final presentations and impress the crowds.

UEFN GAME JAM

TWO-DAY PHYSICAL GAME JAM IN NOVI SAD, INTENDED FOR LOCAL TEAMS, BEGINNERS OR PROFESSIONALS WITH NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN UEFN.

Game Jam:
Unreal Editor for Fortnite

The game jam offers participants the chance to create their own game in the UEFN environment over two intense days.

Through an accelerated game development program, teams can familiarize themselves with game design concepts and explore the technical possibilities of Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

This includes developing game mechanics (such as game objectives, player character concepts, basic gameplay mechanics, core gameplay loops, featured mechanics, and win-lose conditions) and creating virtual worlds (including blockout levels, mesh systems, textures, models, lighting, visual effects, and atmosphere).

 

UEFN GAME JAM GUIDELINES

 

The program is intended for beginners in the industry as well as experienced professionals with no prior UEFN experience.

Anyone who is passionate about video games and game development, moreover is familiar with at least one software used in game development or the entertainment industry can apply (experience with Fortnite Creative 1.0 or UEFN is desirable but not mandatory). 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
